Early Childhood

  • 4 & 5 years old - Children entering Junior Kindergarten and Kindergarten in September

Please note that to attend the ACS Athens Summer Camp children need to be fully potty trained.

The ACS Athens Early Childhood Program offers a creative and interactive Summer Camp! It is designed to keep each child’s body and mind active. It is focused on developmentally appropriate ways to engage children in various educational, fun, and imaginative activities. We aim to engage the children in social emotional development, teamwork, and problem solving skills all while staying physically active.

The Early Childhood Education classroom follows a weekly thematic curriculum and all the activities are related to the theme of the week.

  • In week 1, students will learn about amazing animals around the world. They will be exposed to fun and engaging activities learning about elephants, sharks, pandas, giraffes and more, while interacting with letters and numbers!

  • In week 2, they will explore the natural world while having fun with letters and numbers! They will have the opportunity to play cooperative games that teach nature concepts, crafts, scavenger hunts, songs, and stories.

  • In week 3, students will dive into learning with the space and robots theme! They will dive into outer space explorations learning about the solar system, astronauts, different kinds of robots while being exposed to english vocabulary and building their listening comprehension skills!

English is the language of instruction and the daily schedule includes listening to and reading stories to reinforce the English language. The daily schedule includes hands-on learning, games to build social skills, authentic and fun ABC activities to help strengthen pencil grasp, and artwork. Basic mathematical concepts are also reinforced through the use of games and manipulatives (cubes, pattern blocks, beads. etc).
Children will be exposed to a strong balanced learning program promoting and supporting healthy lifestyle habits through music, movement, singing, dancing, and age-appropriate group games. Children will also be engaged in sport activities, such as swimming, motor skills development, and many more! In addition a great deal of learning occurs through "free exploration" which is essentially classroom play involving cooperative learning and dramatic play. Most importantly they will be having fun!

Children will be exposed to English vocabulary in developmentally appropriate ways. Activities vary throughout the day and include listening to stories, group work, collaboration with peers, artwork, singing, music, and games.

Free exploration/ Playground exploration

An essential learning element in Early Childhood is play. In the classroom, this center includes a housekeeping area, dolls and dollhouse, puppets, cars and trucks, building blocks, farmhouse and animals. Children will also be able to explore the equipment of the playground or create their own games with friends as free play outside.

Gameland

Through board games, creative and team building activities, children will learn how to socialize, interact and use their creative thinking. An ideal opportunity for exploring the world of games while encouraging problem solving and developing communication skills.
