Basic Function and Scope:
The Middle School Teacher Aide, with a specialization in English as a Foreign Language (EFL), performs a variety of support tasks to assist the faculty and the Principal. This role encompasses clerical support, direct monitoring of students, and providing instruction in English as a Foreign Language when substituting.
Duties Performed:
- Provides learning experiences in an environment conducive to student learning and engagement;
- Directs group activities for assigned students;
- Assists in monitoring students as directed by teachers and administrators;
- Substitutes for classroom teachers as needed schoolwide, specializing in English as a Foreign Language;
- Follows teacher learning/lesson plans and reports on daily progress;
- Supports and enforces classroom policies;
- Prepares classroom materials for distribution;
- Corrects workbooks or other short-answer classroom assignments, if necessary;
- Demonstrates appreciation for and sensitivity to the diversity among individuals, ensuring equitable opportunities for student learning;
- Exhibits positive and effective classroom management skills;
- Supervises students during recess, lunch, or early morning periods outside;
- Supervises students in various areas of the building, such as classrooms, the library, theater, or other designated areas;
- Collaborates closely with citizenship coordinators and counselors to address student behavior and issues;
- Proctors examinations, including MAP testing sessions, IB exams, and other assessments;
- Assists students with learning in small groups or one-on-one instructional sessions, specifically in English as a Foreign Language;
- Participates in professional development events to enhance professional competence;
- Thoroughly reads all related handbooks in the Middle School to ensure a comprehensive understanding of school procedures, policies, and offerings;
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Work Contacts:
The Middle School Teacher Aide interacts daily with various school personnel, including the Administrative Assistant, the Principal, faculty members, other aides, and parents. There is also daily contact with students.
Independence of Operation:
While all work is monitored by teachers and/or the Principal/Administrative Assistant, the Middle School Teacher Aide is expected to maintain order, safety, and an optimal learning environment through direct contact with students. Once routine work is explained, the aide is expected to work efficiently, effectively, and independently to complete tasks.
Qualifications:
- A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in a related field in education, with a specialization in English as a Foreign Language;
- Proficiency in English is required;
- A minimum of two years of experience working with children ages 6-12 and/or 12-18 in an educational setting, preferably in groups;
- Strong communication skills;
- Technological literacy, including the use of online teaching platforms for virtual instruction;
- Commitment to remaining current in content knowledge and teaching strategies, particularly in the field of English as a Foreign Language;

The Innovation Lab hosts an artificial intelligence station, a virtual reality/augmented reality station, as well as a maker space to enhance project-based learning across the school. The MakerSpace will contain a 3D printer and other high-end tools of design. The Innovation Lab Specialist tinkers, makes, designs, and seeks to constantly stay updated on new technology innovations.
The responsibility of the Innovation Lab Specialist include:
- Creating and maintaining, with student apprentices, a public repository of tutorials on how to use the machines in the space safely, as well as documenting student projects built in the space;
- Maintaining the machines, tools, materials, safe use, and schedule of the Makerspace;
- Facilitating workshops and training for faculty and students in areas relevant to the machines in the space and use of technology;
- Researching, developing, and prototyping innovative maker activities;

Duties:

- Address social problems students face in school, such as bullying and poor academic performance;
