Mathematics Competition Training Program

We are proud to have ACS Athens students participate in the Mathematics Competition Training Program! It's a wonderful opportunity for students to engage in activities where they can develop their:

  • Problem solving skills
  • Math skills
  • Creativity
  • Deductive reasoning skills
  • Communication skills & teamwork
  • Time management

When do Sessions take place?

Sessions take place at the end of the school day in accordance with ACS Athens Afterschool Activities via the Learning Commons protocols from 4 pm to 5 pm.
There are two sessions per academic year: September - January & January - May. 
Each session runs once a week on a designated day which is announced at the beginning of each session.

  • Elementary School students, grades 2 - 5              
  • Middle School students, grades 6 - 8

For Elementary and Middle School Students

Mathematics Competition Training | Grades 2-3

Aims:

  • Enable students' critical thinking and problem-solving skills;
  • Inspire students to reach their mathematical potential;
  • Engage students in activities that promote teamwork & collaboration.

Through a balance of guided practice and challenging activities, the program introduces math competition themes and skills based on MOEMS and Kangaroo International Mathematics Competition.  

Mathematics Competition Training | Grades 4-6 (Group A)

Aims:

  • Enable students' critical thinking and problem-solving skills;
  • Inspire students to reach their mathematical potential;
  • Engage students in activities that promote teamwork.

Through a balance of guided practice and challenging activities, the program introduces math competition themes and skills based on MOEMS, Math Counts and Kangaroo International Mathematics Competition.

Mathematics Competition Training | Grades 4-6 (Group B)

Aims:

  • Enable students' critical thinking and problem-solving skills;
  • Inspire students to reach their mathematical potential;
  • Engage students in activities that promote teamwork.

Through a balance of guided practice and challenging activities, the program introduces math competition themes and skills based on MOEMSMath Counts and Kangaroo International Mathematics Competition.

Math Competition Training Intermediate/Advanced* | Grades 4-6

This program is suitable for students achieving an average score of 10 or above in previous MOEMS contests or equivalent score on placement.

Aims:

  • Deepen students' critical thinking and problem-solving skills;
  • Inspire students to reach their mathematical potential;
  • Engage students in intensive practice and activities to sharpen their creativity;
  • Encourage teamwork.

Emphasis is placed on math competition themes, practice, skill development for reaching maximum potential in MOEMSMath Counts and Kangaroo International Mathematics Competition.

Students will be offered additional practice material for work at home in preparation for each session.

Mathematics Competition Training | Grades 7-8

Aims:

  • Develop students' critical thinking and problem-solving skills;
  • Inspire students to reach their mathematical potential;
  • Engage students in intensive practice and activities to sharpen their creativity;
  • Encourage teamwork through guided practice.

The program curriculum targets themes in Mathematics common to different Mathematics competitions such as the Mathematics Olympiads for Middle School and Elementary Students (MOEMS Division M), the Kangaroo International Mathematics Competition, the American Mathematical Competition 8, and Math Counts.
