Since 2002, the Grade 10 American Studies class of ACS Athens has upheld the long-standing tradition of the Truman Trial. This mock trial of President Harry S. Truman requires the entire 10th grade to determine whether Truman was guilty of crimes against humanity.

This year, our students were tasked with deciding whether Truman's decision to drop atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki to end World War II was justified. To prepare, students extensively researched prominent historical figures of the time and crafted testimony and cross-examination questions for the trial.

The trial was a resounding success, with the jury ultimately finding Truman "Not Guilty." The students thoroughly enjoyed the experience and were elated with the outcome.
