Admission Requirements and Grade-Level Eligibility
Admission to ACS Athens is subject to specific English language, grade-level, curriculum, program, and graduation requirements. These requirements vary according to the applicant’s grade level and previous educational background.
- Applicants with limited or no English-language proficiency may apply up to Grade 6.

- Applicants transferring from local public or private schools may apply through Grade 8, the final point of entry, subject to eligibility and English-language requirements.
- Learners applying for Grade 10 must be currently attending an international school where English is the primary language of instruction. This requirement reflects the sequencing of courses and credit requirements associated with the ACS Athens American High School Diploma and is intended to ensure that learners have an appropriate pathway toward graduation.
- Grade 11 is the final grade level for entry into ACS Athens. Applicants must be currently attending an international school where English is the primary language of instruction and demonstrate, through a review of their academic records and transferable credits, that they can fulfill all requirements for the U.S. High School Diploma within the time remaining before graduation.
Admissions Assessments and Evaluation
Applicants must submit the completed ACS Athens application and all required supporting documentation for review. Invitations to admissions assessments and interviews are determined by the school based on admissions requirements, available capacity, program availability, and other relevant considerations.
Applicants participate in age-appropriate developmental and academic assessments evaluating readiness, cognitive skills, English language development, mathematics, and social and classroom readiness. Assessments may include interactions with members of the School Team, including academic, counseling, or learning support personnel, as appropriate.
All applicants are required to complete grade-level English and Mathematics assessments. An interview with members of the School Team may also be included.
Assessments take place on campus by appointment or during scheduled testing dates, or online through a synchronous session, where appropriate.
Assessment results are considered alongside the applicant's academic records and other application materials to inform admission decisions, grade and course placement, and appropriate academic programming. Assessment results are not necessarily the sole basis for an admission decision.
Learners applying to the ACS Athens IB Diploma Program must meet the program’s eligibility requirements and fulfill the requirements for the U.S. High School Diploma. Additional program-specific admission requirements may apply.
In addition to meeting the published eligibility requirements, the following factors may be considered:
- Academic Readiness: The learner’s academic history, previous school experience, and readiness to meet the academic expectations of ACS Athens.
- Previous School Information: Relevant information from previous schools regarding attendance, conduct, and social-emotional or other concerns that may affect the learner’s participation in the school community. ACS Athens reserves the right to contact previous schools for verification and additional information.
- Learning Support and Educational Needs: ACS Athens can support learners with mild learning differences, subject to the availability of appropriate programs, staffing, and resources.
- Grade-Level and Program Availability: Admission is subject to available space and capacity within the relevant grade level and program.
