Kotsiani, Athanasia, Middle School Swimming Coach
Athanasia Kotsiani earned her Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education and Sports Science from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, specializing in swimming, and her Master’s degree in Education and Creative Learning from Democritus University of Thrace.
Ms. Kotsiani has been a member of the ACS Athens Athletics program since joining the school in 2004. With a strong background in competitive swimming, she has coached the ACS Athens Swimming teams at both the Middle School and High School levels, working with student-athletes across different age groups and supporting their development both in and out of the pool. Over the years, she has contributed to the growth of the swimming program through coaching, competition preparation, and mentoring student-athletes as they develop their skills, confidence, teamwork, and commitment to the sport.
Ms. Kotsiani has also coached the ACS Athens Cross-Country team for five seasons and has played an important role in the school’s after-school swimming program for 19 years. Through these experiences, she has worked with hundreds of students, sharing her passion for swimming and sport while encouraging athletes to set goals, embrace challenges, and take pride in their progress.
As a certified lifeguard and international swimming official, Ms. Kotsiani brings valuable knowledge of competitive swimming, athlete development, and safety to her coaching. She is also certified in CPR/First Aid and as a wall climbing operator/supervisor.
For Ms. Kotsiani, athletics is about challenging yourself, supporting your teammates, and discovering what you are capable of achieving. She believes that the pool and the playing field are powerful environments for students to develop perseverance, self-confidence, teamwork, discipline, and sportsmanship. Her goal as a coach is to help every student-athlete improve, compete with purpose, and enjoy the journey of becoming the best athlete and teammate they can be.
