Open Panel
The last day of this year’s Media Literacy Festival kicked off with an engaging Open Audience Panel titled “AI in Journalism: The Future of News Reporting.” Held at ACS Athens on Friday, April 4, and filmed for television, the event brought together members of the school community and industry professionals to discuss the complex role artificial intelligence plays in today’s media landscape.
The panel featured thought-provoking contributions from a diverse group of experts:
- Prof. Konstantinos Filis, international strategy analyst, spoke on AI’s impact on global politics and the spread of misinformation.
- Galateia Laskaraki, Chief Editor of Marie Claire Greece, shared how AI tools are reshaping newsroom workflows and raised concerns about preserving editorial ethics and authenticity.
- Achilleas Laskaratos, MD, medical researcher at NeuroRestore, explored how AI-generated content interacts with our brain’s perception and decision-making.
- Elizabeth Chatzigaki, Head of Programs at the Chatzigaki Foundation, emphasized the power of AI in supporting social good, while also calling for transparency and inclusion.
Moderator Stavros Vlachoyannis guided the conversation with insight and humor, keeping the discussion rooted in real-world impact and student relevance.
A strong message emerged: while AI can be a powerful tool, it must be used ethically, creatively, and responsibly. As Laskaraki put it,
“Without generating new journalism, there will be no journalism. Write. Think. Be original.”
The panel ended with an inspiring reminder for students: AI may support the future of news, but human voices will always tell the most meaningful stories.
