Tzelalis, Irene, Middle School Counselor
Ms. Irene Tzelalis holds dual citizenship from Greece and the United States, where she resided for almost 15 years following her graduation from the American Community Schools of Athens. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology with a concentration in Neuroscience at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst and then proceeded to complete an accelerated Master’s degree in Biology from New York University. While working on her thesis and working with a clinical population, Ms. Tzelalis returned to school and completed a second Master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling and Behavioral Medicine from the Boston University School of Medicine where she graduated after completing two clinical rotations in emergency psychiatric medicine and two public school systems in Boston.
Ms. Tzelalis has worked as a special education consultant in the public school system in Massachusetts, has run small social skills groups for students ages 4-16 in an extracurricular capacity, has run a residential facility for adolescents involved with DCF(Social Services), conducted extensive diagnostic assessments, worked in pediatric private psychotherapy practice, and was in clinical leadership at an out-of-district school placement/special education school in the greater Boston area. Her areas of clinical focus included students with Autism Spectrum Disorder, Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder, as well as trauma-related disorders. She is also a nationally certified (NCC) and Licensed Mental Health Clinician (LMHC) in the US.
Throughout her years of professional experience, she has provided academic and socioemotional support to elementary and middle school students with learning differences across a variety of school systems, using individualized strategies and interventions to address their unique needs. Her experience also includes delivering social-emotional learning lessons to classrooms, helping them strengthen their social skills, build self-confidence, and develop greater independence.
