Martines, Michela, Counselor & OLP Intervention Specialist
Michela Martines holds dual citizenship in Italy and Norway. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of Sussex and, in recognition of her strong academic achievements, was awarded a full scholarship to complete her Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology and Mental Health at the same university.
She is an Associate Fellow of the Albert Ellis Institute and is qualified in the practice of Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT). Following a four-year training and supervision program, she specializes in applying REBT to support children, adolescents, parents, and educators. Her knowledge and experience enable her to approach student support through a holistic lens, with a particular focus on helping children develop the skills and strategies needed to thrive both academically and personally.
Ms. Martines has completed a range of professional development courses, including Online Learning and Support for Students with Special Needs and Child-Centered Play Therapy, further strengthening her knowledge of evidence-informed practices in education and student support. Through The Institute of ACS Athens, she designed, developed, and taught a virtual course supporting middle school and academy students in developing organizational and time-management skills. She has also presented at conferences as part of the Athens Inclusive Education Project and holds an ECIS Level 2 Certificate in Child Protection.
Ms. Martines has been a member of the ACS Athens community since 2017 and has held a variety of positions within ACS Athens and the Optimal Learning Program (OLP), including Counseling Intern, Shadow Teacher, Substitute Teacher, OLP Aide, OLP Inclusion Specialist, OLP Academy Specialist, OLP Elementary Specialist, and ES Counselor. Across these roles, she has supported students emotionally and academically from Kindergarten through Grade 12 and has worked closely with teachers, staff, and administrators to promote inclusive practices and effective student support within the mainstream classroom.
