2022

Students Affairs

Students Affairs office complex has been renovated, re-arranged and modernized in order to provide an ergonomic and contemporary workplace for the counselors, who deliver counseling, emotional support and guidance to our students. Entrance of the complex has been also altered and reconstructed, to allow a direct access to the offices.

Middle School Labs

The two Middle School Labs for Physics and Chemistry have been fully renovated and re-designed according to the standards of a modern laboratory for teaching purposes.

The electromechanical infrastructure has been entirely remodeled and re-constructed providing a comfortable and functional environment to the students. Classrooms have been adequately furnished, to tidily and neatly accommodate all the necessary teaching and lab equipment.

AI, IT and Library renovation

During the summer, a number of renovations took place in the Learning Commons.

A newly constructed Innovation Lab, well furnished, was created and housed in the main Library, near the entrance, providing to the students a modern place to create, innovate and deploy their imagination.

Furthermore, the  IT department was entirely  reconstructed and reformed into a functional workspace, providing to the users  an ergonomic working area for all the necessary functions of the department.

As a last part of the renovations plan, the upper lever of the Learning Commons was also renovated and re-arranged, providing more spacious classrooms and a small kitchenete for the everyday needs of the personnel.

Lightning Protection

An ambitious plan was implemented in the summer of 2022, targeting to provide a high standards lightning protection system to the ACS Athens campus.

We followed the Faraday cage construction method, which is considered as the most effective system,  to protect the buildings and consequently the people staying in. Additionally we secured, with an extensive use of special devices (surge arresters), all the critical equipment and infrastructure of the campus, i.e. servers, IT infrastructure, teaching electronic equipment, electrical infrastructure, public address system, cameras, generator, power stations, etc).

Facades of Main Library and surrounding buildings

The facades of the Main Library and the surrounding side buildings (Middle School and Academy) underwent extensive maintenance works, which included treating the loose concrete and corroded rebar. This long-lasting work was completed during the entire summer break. The project resulted in the aesthetically upgraded image of the buildings and the partial restoration of their structural strength.

New Fire Service demands

Installation of a new, extensive fire-fighting system across the campus is currently underway, in compliance with the latest Fire Service regulations. The new system supplements the existing one already in place and will provide an increased level of protection for our students and personnel.

New Public Announcement system

Works for the installation of a fully new public announcement system are in progress.

It is an extensive project that requires a lot of resources and manpower as well as a detailed mapping.

So far we have installed about two thirds of the wiring capacity and main racks.

The new PA System is based on a solution by Bosch, PRAESENSA. It provides provides high-quality audio for music or messaging to every area in our campus buildings. It is controlled via the intuitive graphical user interface on the call station touch screen, or via personalized software running on a tablet or PC.

Fully IP-based and fully-featured, this is a state-of-the-art Public Address and Voice Alarm system with Built-in redundancy and active self test. The project is granted by the US Embassy, it is in the initiation phase and is expected to be completed in 2022.

Waterproofing

As every year, we carried out several waterproof works, restoring the water tightness in the defective areas. Materials selected are a combination of high-quality reinforced asphalt membranes and nanotechnology coatings, depending on the diverse needs of each  application. This year we fully waterproofed the terrace of the Elementary school and Federation building, obtaining a long-lasting protection against water ingress.

Tennis Fence

The tennis court fence was replaced with a new one that features a protective plastic layer around the metal mesh, providing a smooth final surface and long-term resistance against corrosion.

All electrical cables were neatly arranged within conduits along the top of the fencing, aligning with the architecture of the space.
