At ACS Athens, we believe that learning and growth take many forms—inside the classroom, on the field, and through the passions our students pursue each day. This month, we are proud to spotlight Georgios Stergiopoulos, a senior who truly embodies what it means to go above and beyond the classroom.

Georgios joined the ACS Athens community for the first time in 11th grade after moving from New York. He began his track and field journey in 2020 while in 8th grade, just before the COVID-19 pandemic. What started as a new experience quickly grew into a passion. Competing for both school and club teams, Georgios discovered his strength in shot put and progressed rapidly through hard work and dedication.

Since then, he has distinguished himself not only through his athletic achievements, but also through his strong commitment to balancing rigorous academics with elite-level training.

As an athlete, Georgios competes at a high level in shot put with a club team, while also proudly representing ACS Athens as a member of the varsity track and field program. In 2024, he earned the title of Under-18 National Champion in Shot Put and became a member of the Greek Under-18 National Team. He has represented Greece internationally at the Balkan Championships and at the International Children’s Games in Korea, where he won the gold medal and broke the meet record—standing out among more than 100 athletes from across the country.

Behind these accomplishments is a demanding daily routine that requires discipline, focus, and strong time-management skills. Georgios trains for several hours a day, five days a week, while remaining fully engaged in his academic responsibilities. He approaches both school and sport with consistency, preparation, and determination.

Looking ahead, Georgios has ambitious goals for the future. His most immediate focus is the Indoor Track & Field season in late January, where he aims to qualify for the Balkan Championships. Alongside his athletic aspirations, he plans to attend medical school, driven by a desire to challenge himself academically and make a meaningful impact beyond athletics.

In addition to his many academic and athletic commitments, representing ACS Athens in Track & Field is a source of pride for Georgios. Competing alongside his teammates and wearing the Lancers jersey is something he values deeply, and he appreciates being able to contribute to his school in a meaningful way.

Georgios’s journey reminds us that excellence is not defined by a single achievement, but by balance, perseverance, and purpose. We are proud to celebrate him as part of our Student Spotlight series—and to recognize all students who show us that excellence doesn’t stop at the classroom door.
