ACS Athens had the honor of welcoming Astronaut Scott Kelly—retired NASA astronaut, U.S. Navy captain, engineer, and veteran of four spaceflights—for a special presentation to students in Grades 3–5.

Captain Kelly, best known for his yearlong mission aboard the International Space Station (ISS), shared personal stories from his experience and career, highlighting perseverance and the power of pursuing difficult challenges. He spoke about the determination and passion required to become an astronaut and encouraged students to choose something difficult yet fulfilling and then commit themselves to it.

One particularly interesting part of his talk was his description of Earth as seen from space, appearing like “a beautiful blue painting.” He explained that this view is not only breathtaking but also a powerful reminder of our shared responsibility to protect our planet—our only home.

The event was highly interactive, with students eagerly raising their hands to ask questions. Astronaut Scott Kelly answered with humor, insight, and engaging stories that brought space to life and kept every child in the ACS Athens Theater fully engaged. From space travel to daily routines aboard the ISS, his talk left students inspired and full of wonder—encouraging them to dream big, persevere through challenges, and remember that the sky is not the limit.
