It is with a heavy heart that we inform you of the passing of Steve Medeiros, an outstanding educator who has been teacher, friend and mentor to many throughout his 37 years at ACS Athens. He passed away today November 7, 2019 after a long battle with cancer.
Steve Medeiros’ remarkable humility was most noteworthy within his scope as an intellectual and ethical educator who inspired and co-shaped the current vision of ACS Athens. His invaluable contributions to ACS Athens range from being a faculty member, Principal, Dean of Academic Affairs to the first ever Dean of the Institute of Innovation and Creativity. Mr. Medeiros’ strong conviction that students come first underlined his personal educational philosophy and aligned perfectly with the ACS Athens philosophy of education. Likewise he was a strong advocate of faculty and staff who he considered pillars of this educational institution.
Upon his retirement in 2018, he was bestowed the highest recognition by the school leadership, "The ACS Athens Distinguished Educator" award – a life-long distinction. Today the world of education is undoubtedly poorer yet Steve’s love for ACS Athens as well as the students and faculty is etched in our hearts and continues to light our lives as we remember him.
Funeral services for our dearly beloved Steve Medeiros will be at the Proto Nekrotafio in Athens on Saturday November 9, at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers a scholarship in his name has been created at ACS Athens for well versed in the Humanities and the Arts. If you wish to make a donation to the Steven W.
