Ray, Markie, Middle School Assistant Principal
Ms. Ray graduated from the University of North Carolina at Pembroke in Elementary Education with a focus in Mathematics, in 2009. She taught for 3 years, before beginning her journey to earning her Master’s in Mathematics Education from North Carolina State University. Her thesis focused on the impact on journaling with English language learners impacted their performance in the mathematics classroom environment. She has since taught mathematics in grades 6-8, was a mathematics specialist, assistant principal, and curriculum and instruction specialist in mathematics grades Kindergarten through 5th grade.
Her love for impacting students' interest in mathematics led her back into the classroom, and she is currently working on her Ph.D at Liberty University in Educational Leader. Her focus for her dissertation will focus on leadership within International School Communities. During her 17 years in education, she focuses on building relationships, character, and understanding with her students in and outside of the classroom setting.
This is Ms. Ray’s second year at ACS Athens, first as a math teacher and now as an assistant principal. Ms. Ray is looking forward to guiding mathematics in an innovative way to allow teachers and students to take charge of their learning in a way that best fits their personal learning style, and building connections with being well-rounded Conscious Global Citizens.
