Parakatis, Nicholas N., Faculty, Mathematics
Nicholas Parakatis is a dedicated international educator with a rich background teaching Physics and Mathematics in both Canada and Greece. Throughout his tenure at ACS Athens, Mr. Parakatis has served in vital leadership capacities, including Department Chair of Mathematics and Technology, and as the Quantitative Team Leader for the school’s accreditation process . Mr. Parkatais has taught mathematics across all academic tiers, including the Middle School, Academy, and IB Mathematics, as well as specialized SAT and ACT preparatory mathematics.
Mr. Parakatis’s educational philosophy is grounded in the belief that care and concern for students, together with a meticulous approach to curriculum design are key to sustaining student interest and helping them achieve their academic potential. This commitment to student growth extends beyond the classroom; he actively leads and supports numerous enrichment initiatives, including the Mathematics Club, the SAT/ACT Math Club, the AMC 10/12 exams. His personal passion for scientific discovery is highlighted by his unique opportunity to witness the launch of the Rosetta Mission directly from the European Space Agency's (ESA) mission control.
As an active practitioner-researcher, Mr. Parakatis continuously explores innovative pedagogical frameworks to enhance student learning. His action research has examined standardized assessment alignment, the impact of written homework explanations, and the power of collaborative peer discussions in resolving academic misconceptions.
Most recently, at the prestigious ACS Athens Colloquium II, Mr. Parakatis was featured as a TED-style speaker. He delivered a presentation titled "Empowering the Struggling Learner in the Age of AI: The Impact of Web-Based Personalized Tools on Grade 9 Remedial Algebra". His presentation demonstrated how integrating adaptive AI platforms can cultivate a growth mindset, provide real-time error analysis, and close foundational learning gaps for struggling students.
Outside of his professional pursuits, Mr. Parakatis is an enthusiast of astronomy, team sports, music, and traveling.
