After School Swimming

The swimming sessions take place after "a typical school day" is over and offer a great opportunity to our students to advance their swimming skills. Below you may find important information about the program:

Activities Fees & Deadlines:

Please pay the necessary fees at the cashier's office no later than September 13. 

*Payment must be made prior to the onset of the activity OR within one week following the submission of the form (if activity has already started and space is available).

Early Childhood Swimming Program | JK -KG

Session Dates
September: 16, 19, 23
October: 3, 7, 10, 14, 17, 21, 24, 31
November: 4, 7, 11, 14, 18, 21
December: 2, 5, 9, 12, 16, 19
January: 9, 13, 16, 20, 23

Students will have the opportunity to become acquainted with the water, learn the basics of swimming and love the overall experience by learning in a specially designed program with the ACS Athens Aquatics Instructors.

Duration of classes (Fall / Winter): September 16 - January 23

Days: Mondays & Thursdays

Time of Sessions: 15:55 - 16:40

    * The instructors will meet the children at the swimming pool at 15:55 sharp and the session will run until 16:40. Please keep in mind that parents must commit to bringing their child(ren) to the location of the activity at 15:50 and picking up their children at 16:45 or arrange for another parent to do so.

In order to swim each child will need:

  • An updated PHYSICAL EXAMINATION filed with the school nurse (for those who have not turned one in yet). There must be clearance from a Dermatologist for any skin conditions. The physical examination is valid for 12 months.

Notice: The Swimming program is ongoing throughout the year (Fall - Winter / Winter - Spring season.) Details for future periods will be published in due time.



Grades 1-4

Duration of classes (Fall/ Winter): September 16 - January 24

    The swimming sessions depend on the levels of the participants; if swimming will NOT take place on any given day, it will be communicated directly to the swimmers by the instructors and via special announcements.

Students will be placed in different groups according to their swimming level: level 2, level 3, level 4, level 5, level 6 and level 7 (a description of the levels is provided below).

These groups will be meeting at different times and days in order to accommodate all students.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

NEW PARTICIPANTS are required to come to the pool in order for the instructors to determine every child's swim level (child will have to be observed by instructor).

Levels are determined by the instructors.

In addition, you will need to provide an UPDATED PHYSICAL EXAMINATION which will clear the child of any dermatological and other pathological conditions. (You can pick up the school health form from the Health office). The physical examination is valid for 12 months.



Grades 5-12

The ACS Athens after school Swimming Academy WILL NOT take place:

  • On Thursday September 26 (For Elementary students ONLY)
  • On Wednesday, October 16th (Half Day)
  • On Friday, October 25th (For all students-Halloween Carnival)
  • On Monday, October 28th (OXI Day)
  • On Wednesday, November 13th (Half Day)
  • During Thanksgiving Week (November 25-29)
  • During Winter Break (December 21-January 6

Description of Levels

EARLY CHILDHOOD (JK – KG)

Starfish – (level 1)

Absolute beginner level with no water experience. The targets will be met through entertaining courses based on games.

Goals:

  1. Familiarization with the water
  2. Gaining confidence in the water
  3. Proper breathing
  4. Basic rules of floating and forward movement
  5. Basic body swimming position
  6. Safety awareness

 

BEGINNERS

a) Sea horses (level 2)

Prerequisites:

  1. Breath Control for 10 seconds
  2. Back float for 10 seconds
  3. Front float for 10 seconds
  4. Survival swim for 10 meters
  5. Freestyle kick with float for 12.5 meters
  6. Backstroke kick with float for 12.5 meters
  7. Torpedo kick for 10 meters

b) Crabs (level 3)

Prerequisites:

  1. Floating change drill from back to front in streamline position (2 times)
  2. Freestyle kick in streamline position with pull buoy and front breath for 25 meters
  3. Backstroke kick in streamline position for 25 meters
  4. Beginners freestyle for 10 meters (catch up)

c) Lobsters (level 4)

Prerequisites:

  1. Freestyle kick with breath on the side, for 25 meters (proper body position)
  2. Freestyle drill, arm transition for 25 meters (2 strokes right, 2 strokes left)
  3. Backstroke drill, arm transition for 25 meters (2 strokes right, 2 strokes left)
  4. Start with push off the wall in front and back with streamline position (glide for 5 meters)

 

INTERMEDIATE

a) Swordfish (level 5)

Prerequisites:

  1. Freestyle swim for 25 meters (breath every 3 strokes)
  2. Backstroke swim for 25 meters
  3. Qualified breaststroke kicking for 25 meters
  4. Start with proper entry and glide in streamline position for 5 meters
  5. Underwater push of the wall, in front and back streamline position (glide for 5 meters)

b) Sharks (level 6)

Prerequisites:

  1. Freestyle swim for 50 meters (breath every 3 strokes)
  2. Backstroke swim for 50 meters
  3. Breaststroke swim for 25 meters
  4. Butterfly kick for 25 meters
  5. 5
  6. Dive with proper entry and break out of the water

c) Dolphins (level 7)

Prerequisites:

  1. Freestyle swim for 75 meters (breath every 3 strokes)
  2. Backstroke swim for 75 meters
  3. Breaststroke swim for 50 meters
  4. Butterfly drill with correct synchronization with fins for 25 meters (2 right strokes, 2 left strokes and 1 double stroke)

 

ΑDVANCED (LEVEL 8)

Prerequisites:

  1. Freestyle swim for 100 meters (breath every three strokes)
  2. Backstroke swim for 100 meters
  3. Breaststroke swim for 75 meters
  4. Butterfly swim for 25 meters
  5. Underwater butterfly kicking for 10 meters by pushing off

 

SUPER ΑDVANCED (LEVEL 9)

Prerequisites:

  1. Freestyle swim for 200 meters
  2. Backstroke swim for 150 meters
  3. Breaststroke swim for 100 meters
  4. Butterfly swim for 50 meters
  5. Individual medley swimming with qualified turns for 100 meters
  6. Diving and butterfly underwater kicking for 15 meters

*The advancement of students to the next level is determined by the instructors' evaluations based on criteria and training goals.
