ACS Athens was poised and made an exceptional impact at the THIMUN 2025 Conference, an internationally renowned Model United Nations event that convened 3200 student delegates from across the globe to debate the theme: “The Impact of AI on Humanity.” This timely and thought-provoking topic challenged participants to explore the ethical, social, and geopolitical consequences of artificial intelligence, a subject at the forefront of global discourse.

Representing the delegations of Bulgaria and Togo, a distinguished team of 24 ACS Athens students demonstrated their deep understanding of international affairs, policy-making, and diplomatic negotiation. Their participation reflected the school’s dedication to fostering critical thinking, public speaking, and leadership skills in an environment that mirrored real-world diplomacy.

Further elevating ACS Athens' presence at the conference, six of its delegates had secured prestigious leadership positions—an outstanding accomplishment that highlights their expertise and dedication:

  • Dimitri Meintanas - President of NATO: Leading high-stakes discussions on the security ramifications of AI, this role oversaw critical debates on how artificial intelligence shapes modern defense strategies and international stability.
  • Nikephoros Gontzes - Delegate of Luxembourg at the NATO Summit: Contributed to high-level negotiations, this delegate engaged with pressing issues related to NATO’s evolving role in an AI-driven world.
  • Athina Ntosta and Evgenia Bakamitsos - Two Ambassadors, Togo and Bulgaria: Served as the guiding force for their respective delegations, these students navigated complex committee discussions, ensuring their peers’ voices were heard and their nations’ interests effectively represented.
  • Aristides Bakamitsos - Deputy President of the International Criminal Court: Oversaw legal deliberations, this delegate helped shape conversations around justice, accountability, and ethical governance in the AI era.
  • Karolina Ritsema - MUNITY Editorial Team Member: Played a crucial role in documenting the conference, this student journalist crafted insightful articles that encapsulated the essence of the event, ensuring that key discussions and decisions reached a wider audience.

In preparation for THIMUN 2025, ACS Athens students were rigorously engaged with multifaceted global challenges, including the ethical dilemmas posed by artificial intelligence, its influence on economic disparity, and its profound impact on international relations. Through extensive research, resolution drafting, and strategic collaboration, they honed their ability to articulate informed arguments and propose innovative solutions to some of the world’s most pressing concerns.
