Congratulations are once more due to all ACS ATHENS debaters who participated in the HAEF CUP, which was hosted at the  American Hellenic College Latseio Athens on Saturday, Feb. 1. This particular debate competition differs from other competitions in that it follows the World Schools debate format - teams of three debaters, each delivering 7-minute speeches.

In addition to good debating skills, this particular format requires extensive collaboration, strategy and role fulfilment awareness, which our teams practiced and developed. The topics students engaged with include removing the veto from the permanent members of the UN Security Council, the benefits and harms of self-sacrificing parenting and whether we should consume art created by individuals that have committed deeply immoral acts.

The six ACS Athens students made ACS proud with their poise, professionalism, stellar performances, and friendly attitude toward the other teams. Special mention to Zoi, Pavlos and A. for almost breaking to the Finals, with three out of four wins. Go ACS Athens debate!

Congratulations to Maggie Al Maleh, Pavlos Broustas Maceira, Shangze Li, Leia Ofir, A. T., and Zoi Xydia. Special thanks to our volunteer judges, Mr. Panayiotis Hatzis and Ms. Amalia Zavacopoulou, and to debate veteran Kai Yuet Zhang who also helped with the judging process.
