Last week was Math Week at ACS Athens, and grade 7 students had the opportunity to participate in a Virtual Math Bowl during their math classes!
The Math Bowl event is designed to give students of different ability levels in grade 7 the opportunity to apply skills in mathematics.
It’s a competition that gives students the drive and eagerness to complete as many activities as possible to accumulate the highest score.
Participating students were divided into groups of 4-5 in break-out rooms and asked to solve a series of fun activities that required problem-solving skills, computational skills, visual perception skills and logical reasoning.
Students were also asked to make an intelligent “guesstimate” of candies in a jar, receiving points for accurate estimations.

During Math Week, Pi day was also celebrated in the math classes of grades 6-8. Students had the opportunity to research about Pi and create posters with information and illustrations for the Pi-Poster Mural.
Middle School students (grades 6-8) were also able to participate in the Pi-Digit Contest, competing for who can recite the greatest number of Pi Digits!
The 2021 Pi-Digit Contest Winner winner is Haoming Lyu (Grade 6), who got an amazing 58 digits!
