On June 19, the ACS Athens community gathered in the ACS Athens Theater for two milestone celebrations as Middle School students were promoted to the Academy and the Senior Class of 2026 marked Commencement. Together, the ceremonies celebrated academic achievement, personal growth, and the opportunities that lie ahead for students at every stage of their educational journey.
The Middle School Promotion Ceremony celebrated students as they completed an important chapter and prepared to begin their Academy years.
The ceremony featured ACS Athens alumna Daphne Apostolidis (Class of 2013), now a Brand Manager in Gastroenterology at AbbVie, a global biopharmaceutical company that develops medicines for complex health conditions. Returning to her alma mater, she encouraged students to embrace new opportunities, step outside their comfort zones, and enjoy the journey without feeling the need to have everything figured out.
Students were also recognized with Special Recognition Awards across academic disciplines, honoring their dedication, perseverance, and excellence throughout the school year.
In the evening of the same day, families, faculty, alumni, and distinguished guests gathered to celebrate the graduation of the Academy Class of 2026.
In her Commencement address, President Dr. Peggy Pelonis challenged graduates to think of the future not as something predetermined, but as something they have the ability to shape. Her remarks focused on resilience, leadership, and the importance of embracing opportunities for continuous growth.
This year's ceremony welcomed distinguished guests, including Sofia Zacharaki, Greece's Minister of Education, Religious Affairs and Sports; U.S. Ambassador to Greece Kimberly Guilfoyle; and Evangelos Mytilineos, Executive Chairman at METLEN Energy & Metals. Their presence reflected the school's commitment to connecting students with leaders from education, public service, diplomacy, and industry.
The graduates themselves also shared thoughtful reflections on the experiences that shaped their class. Valedictorian Tamer Koleilat spoke about navigating uncertainty while recognizing the importance of the people who guide and support us throughout our lives. Salutatorian Micah Creel encouraged his classmates to move forward with gratitude, reminding them that kindness and meaningful actions always have a lasting impact.
Both ceremonies reflected the values that define the school community: academic excellence, leadership, integrity, and a commitment to lifelong learning.
Congratulations to our Middle School students and to the Academy Class of 2026. We wish you every success!
