We are proud to celebrate the incredible achievements of our 9th grade biology students who demonstrated both scientific curiosity and academic excellence this spring.

Seventeen students participated in the globally respected UK Biology Challenge, joining over 42,000 students from across the world. Of those, 12 students earned awards, including:

  • 3 Gold Awards – placing them in the top 5% globally
  • 2 Silver Awards
  • 2 Bronze Awards
  • 3 Highly Commended
  • 2 Commended

This level of achievement speaks volumes about the strength of the ACS Athens science curriculum and the student-centered instruction that fuels it.

In addition, four students also took part in the American Society of Human Genetics DNA Day Essay Contest in April. This international writing competition tasked students with exploring the role of AI in genetic testing—a timely and complex issue. Our students rose to the challenge, developing thoughtful, research-based arguments and showcasing their growing confidence as science communicators.

Dr. Natalie Mitchell, who mentored the students throughout weeks of lunch-hour prep, reflected on their success:

“I’m extremely proud of the effort and commitment our students showed. They challenged themselves, supported one another, and took ownership of their learning in an incredibly inspiring way.”

We also extend sincere appreciation to Mr. Cramer, whose contributions and daily commitment to excellence continue to elevate our science program.

Congratulations to our students and educators for these fantastic achievements—proof that at ACS Athens, curiosity and excellence go hand in hand: Apostolos Aristotelis Adamopoulos, Nadia Aravanitou, Despoina Iliopoulou, Dimitri Ikonomakis, Marianna Kalliolias, Ziyue Li, Shangze Li, Ifigeneia Mihailidi, Charalampos Mikropoulos, Richard Martinez, Natalia Myers, Natalia Papadoglou, Rocco Ramgopal, Maya Rashid, Funing Yang, Ziyou Zhang, Sofia K.
