“If we cannot now end our differences, at least we can make the world safe for diversity”. John F. Kennedy

In light of the recent events in the United States and around the world protesting racial injustice involving the wrongful death of George Floyd on May 25, 2020, ACS Athens stands firm declaring its commitment against social and racial injustice.  Such acts of brutality have no place in our world.

Located at the cradle of western civilization and democratic ideals, the ACS Athens educational community continuously works so that reason, respect, and solidarity for humanity will prevail; What is the purpose of education if not for knowledge to translate into action in order to better our society?  A society that must find strength in diversity and solace in inclusion; a society that must condemn and prevent any form of violence.  At moments like this, we all may be at a loss about how to address such horrific and unjustifiable events with our children.  The brutal events we witnessed is a painful reminder that we have ‘miles to go before we sleep’ and we must continuously ignite the conversation about social justice and racism.

As educators, we will continue to educate in order to eliminate injustice because within our children lies the hope of our society and of the world.  I encourage everyone to keep learning and growing, to be open to diversity and differing points of view, and to acknowledge that we are all equally and rightfully deserving of a life that is safe and free. ACS Athens, an American International school with 62 different nationalities,  is devoted to educating students of all colors, ethnicity and racial backgrounds guided by the principles of American education, as they stem from our Mission: "Through excellence in teaching and diverse educational experiences, ACS Athens challenges all students to realize their unique potential: academically, intellectually, socially and ethically — to thrive as responsible global citizens."

Our children deserve to grow up in a world where diversity is celebrated, where differences are embraced, and where culture is something to be proud of.  It is our responsibility to continue to teach kindness, ethos, and tolerance so that these can transfer into our society through the young citizens of tomorrow.  We are ACS Athens and we are committed to these ideals more so than ever.
