Is ACS Athens a "non-profit" institution?

ACS Athens does not operate to make a profit. It is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization incorporated in Delaware, operating in Greece since 1945. The assets of the school are held in trust for the benefit of the institution and its students and not for any individual. The school is governed by a volunteer Board of Trustees who are ultimately responsible for appointing the President, managing the school’s assets and carrying out the schools’ mission: “Through excellence in teaching and diverse educational experiences, ACS Athens challenges all students to realize their unique potential: academically, intellectually, socially and ethically — to thrive as responsible global citizens.”

Does tuition cover the cost of sustaining all expenses of ACS Athens?

The school applies the revenue generated from tuition to its annual operating costs. Like most private educational institutions, tuition does not cover the entire cost of operation. In order to meet its expenses, the school relies in part on its reserve assets and in part on contributions from alumni and friends. Traditionally, any surplus in the operational budget – whenever they occur – is either invested in students, program development, infrastructure, or retained for future use. In this way, the school has been able to continue to maintain the quality of education and services as well as offer unique opportunities to students, state-of-the-art facilities and programming throughout the years.

Who governs ACS Athens?

The ACS Athens Board of Trustees contributes its time and considerable talent to steering a course for the school. Day-to-day operations of the school are overseen by the President, who is appointed by the Board.

Why should I donate to ACS Athens?

As a non profit organization ACS Athens relies heavily on tuition.  However, costs to maintain and upgrade facilities and most importantly to remain at the forefront of the changing educational landscape your contributions are imperative.  Your generous donations allow us to enhance the ACS Athens educational experience while maintaining a safe environment for all.

Will my contribution make a difference?

Your contributions and the contributions of others, will be allocated to the cause of your choice. Donations towards our Scholarship Funds will be used to enable talented and deserving students to experience education at ACS Athens based on specific academic and financial criterias. Donations towards our Capital Projects will be used to improve, expand and create better infrastructure conditions for student learning and operations. Donations towards Faculty Scholarship and Research will enable our faculty to continue pursuing meaningful professional development and post-graduate degrees and conduct research on their respective fields. General donations without specific designation under the unrestricted amount will be applied towards specific programs necessary to encourage and enhance innovation.

What is the source of scholarship funding?

Scholarship funding comes from a number of sources, partly from existing endowed funds established by generous donors, partly from expendable contributions from alumni and friends, and partly from the reserve assets of the school.

Is there a minimum amount I can contribute?

No, there is no minimum. Any contribution, however small, will help an ACS Athens student. What matters most, is that you participate.
