Mavraki, Maria, Elementary Permanent Substitute Teacher
Ms. Mavraki graduated with an M.A.Ed in Primary Education and Qualified Teaching Status from the University of Durham in the U.K. She is also a certified English teacher for middle and high school. She taught as a Full-time Head teacher in England and Greece, before spending 15 years at private schools in New York City.
Ms. Mavraki completed courses in Mindfulness Fundamentals and Educators Essentials and attended workshops including Orton-Gillingham and The Really Great Reading program. She has used this training to design small group literacy experiences to facilitate reading, phonemic awareness and vocabulary. She is also well-versed in Responsive Classroom activities. Ms. Mavraki has also created curriculums for Advanced English classes, Social Studies/History, and Maths, which has been implemented in various grade levels.
In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her two children, taking long walks with her dog, and reading. Currently, Ms. Mavraki is writing a children’s book about the awareness and perception of autism.
