Whalen, Jay, Faculty, 5th Grade

Mr. Whalen began teaching at ACS Athens in 2020, spending his first two years in First Grade before moving to Fourth Grade, where he taught for three years. As of the 2025–2026 academic year, he is now excited to move to Grade 5.
Before joining ACS Athens, Mr. Whalen worked in First and Fourth Grade classrooms in the state of Michigan, where he collaborated closely with the school’s special education program. During this time, he attended the MCTM Teachers of Mathematics conference, with a focus on elementary-level math instruction.
Mr. Whalen also worked as a volunteer teacher at Hestia Hellas in Athens, Greece, where he helped to deliver English and math instruction to children aged six to twelve.
Prior to his teaching career, Mr. Whalen lived in New York City for approximately twenty years, working as an audio engineer and recording studio manager.
He holds a degree in audio engineering from Full Sail University in Orlando, Florida, and a BA in Interdisciplinary Education (K–8) from Western Governors University in Salt Lake City, Utah.
