Poulou, Victoria, Science Lab Specialist

Victoria Poulou holds a B.Sc. in Physics and an M.Sc. in Astronomy, Astrophysics and Mechanics from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA), with experimental physics dissertations on “total internal reflection evanescent wave” and on ”spectrophotometric study of SLR digital cameras”, respectively. She has contributed to the NKUA telescope observations of the 2004 Venus Transit and the 2006 Total Solar Eclipse outreach missions.

Ms. Poulou has more than 20 years of experience teaching Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry and Biology. As the ACS Athens Science Lab Specialist, she contributes into offering meaningful science hands-on laboratory experiences to Academy and Middle School students, including the preparation and conduction of science labs, the support of IB Internal Assessments and Extended Essays, the management of inventories of instruments, materials, and online resources, and the facilitation of new materials’ acquisition. Ms. Poulou has also worked with ACS students in various capacities such as BMAT/UCAT instructor, Math & Science Studio teacher and After-School Enhancement Program teacher.

Ms. Poulou has been a member of the ACS Athens Artificial Intelligence Task Force contributing into a holistic K-12 AI Framework for the education of the future. She has also guided the students of the spACS program to design Physics experiments that were conducted in space in May and December 2019 inside Blue Origin’s New Shepard capsule, as well as to analyze and evaluate the relevant scientific data. She is a co-author of educational articles published in the European Distance and E-Learning Network Proceedings (2019) and the International Schools Journal (2022). Ms. Poulou regularly attends conferences and other educational events including the ”Humanity and Artificial Intelligence” conference (2021), the ”Tomorrow is another STREAM day” conference (2019), the ”Creating Conditions for Deeper Learning in Science” conference (2019), as well the ”Athens Re-Science Festival” as a member of the ACS Athens Academy team (2019).
