JK-12 Library Literacy Research Studio Coordinator

Basic Functions and Scope

  • Carries out para-professional tasks pertaining to charging and discharging of library materials using the computer programs;
  • Deals with routine concerns and assists at the circulation desk;
  • Recovers overdue materials and assists students with the use of various resources of the library to meet their research needs;
  • Shelves, repairs, and organizes all materials and assists library patrons as needed;
  • Demonstrates independence and initiative when necessary to assure efficient library services.

Duties performed in the Middle School and Academy Sabbagh LIBRARY of the Learning Commons

  • Develops and conducts workshops and presentations to promote reading for Middle School and Academy students;
  • Develops and conducts workshops and presentations with the Writing Studio to help Middle School and Academy students improve their research skills including using databases, finding interesting sources and maintaining academic integrity in written assignments;
  • Assists students and staff to find resources for reading and research needs related to curriculum and independent projects;
  • Evaluates research resources, books and databases, to determine best resources for student and faculty needs and orders appropriate resources;
  • Evaluates and orders fiction and non-fiction books to enhance our collection in order to promote reading and learning throughout our community;
  • With the help of the library assistant maintains the Sabbagh library, i.e. including cataloguing new books, shelving books, preparing overdue lists, taking inventory, ordering supplies;
  • Works with users of the Sabbagh Library space to make it a comfortable and useful space for school needs;
  • Cooperates with the Learning Commons administrative assistant to schedule use of the facility;
  • Cooperates with the Learning Commons administrative assistant to schedule parent volunteers;
  • Coordinates the Library and Research Studio;
  • Coordinates the annual Literacy Festival;
  • Other duties as assigned having to do with position.

Duties performed in the E.S. Library

  • Prepares lessons for JK - 5 th Grade students who attend library classes for 40 minutes once a week. Lessons include time to check out books;
  • Assists students and staff locate books and materials, including online resources for student reading, research and lessons;
  • With the help of the library assistant maintains the Elementary School library: including cataloguing new books, shelving books and maintaining the shelves, preparing overdue lists and distributing overdue notices, taking inventory and ordering supplies;
  • Works with users of the Elementary School Library space to make it a comfortable and useful space for Elementary School needs;
  • Runs Scholastic Book Club;
  • Other duties as assigned having to do with position.

Independence of operation

As Jk-12 Library Literacy Research Studio Coordinator;

Works within established school library procedures and improvises according to the needs of each moment;

Keeps Director of the Learning Commons advised of activity;

Completed work is subject to review by Director of the learning Commons and Dean of Academic and Student Affairs.

Work Contacts

Internal:

Students, teachers and other library service patrons;

Business office – Depositing funds from book sales into library accounts.

External:

Parents/Alumni/ICCT users and library patrons;

Vendor/representatives of library databases;

Photocopy repair/service.

Minimum Requirements

  • Completion of Bachelor Degree in a related field, Library, Media.
  • At least two years’ experience in related field with excellent computer skills;
  • Computer literacy;
  • Very good knowledge of English and Greek;
  • Strong communication skills;
  • Strong work ethic.
