Early Childhood students will soon be getting a Brain Break in their homeroom classes.
But, wait a minute, what is a Brain Break?
Brain Breaks are short breaks from class work or class transitions and have been shown to have positive benefits for students, such as reducing stress, anxiety, and frustration. They can even help students to re-focus on a task and ultimately become more productive.
Brain Breaks are especially helpful for children who struggle with executive functioning skills so they can recognize their frustration and learn how to self-regulate in order to get back on task.
ACS Athens Director of Early Childhood, Ms. Sophia Moros, has invited our ACS community to have some fun and sign up for the Conscious Cub Brain Break Video Challenge, which started on Friday, December 10th, to create a first-ever ACS Athens Early Childhood Brain Break Video Collection with our beloved Conscious Cub mascot.
Brain Break videos are for anyone and will be categorized by topic. ACS Athens teachers will be able to access the clips depending on their student’s needs. For example, if the class has just returned from recess and needs a way to calm down, showing a two-minute Conscious Cub Breathing video or Mindfulness Clip can greatly assist this process.
Fostering and teaching well-being from Early Childhood helps to ensure that our young students feel protected and balanced. It provides a safe space to learn, experiment, and grow.
