The Play:

The Glass Menagerie, by Tennessee Williams (1944), is undoubtedly a classic American drama of the 20th century. Tennessee Williams, disguised as the narrator of the play, Tom, tells the story of how he left the tenement apartment in St. Louis, where he lived with his mother Amanda and his sister Laura, to pursue his career as a writer and find personal fulfillment.

In this “memory play,” as he calls it, we watch three different dream worlds interact and collide: each of the characters escapeescapes reality through a different fantasy. The beautiful poetic language, the vivid characters, and the magical atmospheres invoked by memory in this unique play, create a delicate interplay between reality and the fragility of dreams.
