IB Theater Year 2 will be presenting its Winter Performance on Wednesday December 2 (at 18:00), at the Theater at ACS Athens.
Ms. Sophia Thanopoulou, (Faculty, Theater), and theater students Ariadne, Susanna and Valeria who are involved in the play, seized the opportunity to have a discussion, interview and be interviewed, and help us gain some insight about the performance, "devised theater", improvisation and developing the upcoming play...
Sonder - the Play
"Sonder" : *n. the realization that each random passer-by is living a life as vivid and complex as your own - from the Dictionary of Obscure Sorrows
The play started from one word.
On October 8 2015 the IB Theater 2 class started brainstorming on the word VALUE. A collective effort ensued, where ideas, stories, personal resources, research, experimentations and countless improvisations were shared, discussed, tried out, rejected, reviewed and finally shaped by the whole class into the collection of scenes that you are going to watch.
This play does not have a narrative, a beginning, or an end. “It either ends or it doesn't”. The scenes do not even express a coherent point of view.
They talk about the search for meaning, identity and ethics of 10 individuals, right before they go out of their cocoon into a less than perfect, less than friendly and pretty absurd world.
Nothing in this play is fictional: all stories are true stories, based on research, interviews, personal testimonies, life experiences and more.
We hope you enjoy our performance.
