Elementary School positions
Reports to: Elementary School Principal
School Year: 2nd semester 2025-26
ACS Athens, a student-centered international school, embracing American educational philosophy, principles and values, is seeking to recruit an Elementary School teacher to teach Elementary School students. The teacher reports to the Elementary School Principal.
Key Responsibilities:
- Curriculum Monitoring: Assess students' understanding and adjust instruction as needed.

- Professional Development: Engage in ongoing professional growth through training events.

Qualifications:
- Flexibility, confidence, and adaptability in teaching.

Requirements:
- Valid Teaching License in Elementary Education.

Non-Teaching positions
Reports to: Director of Learning Commons
Schedule: Daily 9.00 to 17.00
Duties:
- Assist/guide/teach students in the math/science studio after school;
- Teach and provide learning experiences in math/sciences, while creating an environment that is conducive to student learning and involvement;
- Substitute classes in the Middle School and Academy, primarily for faculty in the math and science departments;
- Monitor students' understanding of the curriculum effectively and adjusts instruction, materials, or assessments when appropriate;
- Evaluate, try innovative approaches, and refine instructional strategies, including the effective use of technologies available to teachers, to increase student learning, involvement, and confidence to learn;
- Know and use technology in teaching;
- Design presentations and/or workshops for academy and middle school students;
- Demonstrate appreciation for and sensitivity to the diversity among individuals and strives to ensure equitable opportunities for student learning;
- Maintain and improve professional competence through attendance at professional development events;
- Share responsibility for accomplishing the goals and priorities of their grade/team/department;
- Actively participate in the math/science studio collective AR/ER research project;
- Complete any necessary certificates required by ACS Athens in relation to the use of generative AI use in education;
- Know and abide by all GDPR, Child Safety and Emergency evacuation procedures/regulations set forth by ACS Athens;
- Other duties, as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Licensed to teach grades 7-12;
- Bachelor's Degree, Master's preferred, from an accredited college or university, in math/physics/chemistry/biology;
- At least two years of relevant teaching experience, required;
- IB and/or AP teaching experience is preferred, otherwise, knowledge of the curricula will be positively considered;
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing, to students (ages 13 – 18) in English;
- Commitment to remain current in content knowledge and teaching strategies;
- Display commitment to safeguarding and protection of children.

Department: Learning Commons
Reports to: Director of Learning Commons
Basic Function and Scope:
Performs a variety of instructional and support tasks in the school as a substitute teacher in the Elementary School, Middle School or Academy as needed. Functions in the capacity of classroom instructors to teach, support and guide all students based on the lesson plans identified by the regular classroom teacher for the set time of substitution. Additionally, performs supervision duties of students, wherever and whenever necessary.
Instructs in the following disciplines but not limited to:
English Language and Literature, Humanities, Mathematics, Science, Greek, Foreign Languages, ESL, Fine Arts, Technology, Physical Education, Elementary School and Early Childhood.
Duties Performed (per day):
- Provides learning experiences while creating an environment that is conducive to student learning and involvement;
- Directs group activities of students assigned; assists in monitoring students as directed;
- Proctors exams;
- Substituting for classroom teachers, as needed, schoolwide;
- Follows teacher learning plans and reports on daily progress;
- Supports and maintains classroom policies;
- Prepares classroom materials for distribution;
- Corrects work books or other short answer classroom work;
- Demonstrates appreciation for and sensitivity to the diversity among individuals and strives to ensure equitable opportunities for student learning;
- Demonstrates positive and effective classroom management skills;
- Supervises children during recess, lunch or early morning or late afternoon periods outside;
- Supervises students in classrooms, library, theater or other areas of the building;
- Assists students with learning in small groups or one-on-one instructional sessions;
- Participates and improves professional competence through attendance of professional development events;
- Other duties as assigned.
