Department Chair - Dr. Andreas Tsokos
Mr. Tsokos was born in Cyprus. He attended the University of Birmingham in the U.K with a full scholarship and was awarded a double Honors degree in Physics and Mathematics. At Birmingham, he received the Nora Calderwood Prize for highest achievement in the final examinations. He obtained a Master of Science and a Ph.D. in Physics from Cornell University in the USA.
Mr. Tsokos has served as Assistant, Deputy and Chief Examiner for IB Physics. He is the author of Physics for the IB Diploma, Series and Differential Equations, IB Physics in a nutshell and about 20 research papers dealing, mainly, with Quantum Chromodynamics. In one paper he showed how the high temperature limit of chiral gauge theories leads to the appearance of topological mass terms for the associated gauge fields. His main interests are Physics, Mathematics and the music of Johann Sebastian Bach.
He has been a faculty of ACS Athens for 15 years.

Mathematics Coordinator - Dora Andrikopoulos
Dora has been teaching at ACS since 1990. She has taught Science and Mathematics at all levels-elementary, middle and academy. She has acted as core leader, team leader and held a math bowl and math club for middle school students. In the elementary school, Dora held after-school Olympiad classes for interested and motivated students. In the academy she held after-school preparatory SAT classes.
Dora has participated in a number of professional development conferences. She has been involved in NESA conferences and in 1998, wrote a paper on “The Art of Teaching Mathematics”.
In 1999, she presented a successful workshop in Cairo, Egypt on "Brain Research and Cognitive Thinking", and in 2009, she attended another conference in Cairo, involving standards of mathematics-Aero Mathematics-.
In 2010, Dora presented a workshop at the "Learning Differences Conference" at ACS, inviting other teachers to share fun and creative projects that inspire her students.
This year Dora has been appointed mathematics coordinator. She will be involved in monitoring the development and implementation of curriculum initiatives.
Dora has also compiled a series of units in mathematics for middle school students to help them consolidate, use and apply concepts.
