President's Welcome !

September, 2012

Dear Parents,

On behalf of the Board of Trustees, administration, faculty and staff, I would like to welcome you to the American Community Schools of Athens and thank you for entrusting us with the education of your children.

I am convinced that your children will receive the best educational experience possible via a holistic, meaningful, and harmonious approach to learning, which is necessary for them to grow, develop and be successful in college life and in society in general.

The 2012-2013 academic year will be a continuation of the successful 2011-2012 academic year.  For the seventh year in a row we are experiencing an increase in our student enrollment and our curriculum, as every academic year, will be enhanced with new initiatives.  We will continue to offer our Academy and Middle School qualified students a variety of courses via the Institute of Innovation and Creativity (IIC), as well as with collaborations with universities in the United States and other American/ international institutions in Greece.

We are moving forward with a very significant partnership with St. Louis University that will enhance faculty development and growth, educational research, summer programs for our sophomores and juniors and other programs.  For further details, please access the IIC catalog on our website (www.acs.gr).

As you enter our campus in September, you may notice the new Elementary School classrooms that will be housing the 5th graders, as well as upgrades of facilities and technology.  We will be continuing the multi-dimensional communication between the schools and the parents via weekly bulletins, newsletters, Ethos magazine, and the regularly updated website.  The President’s Newsletter, another means of communication with the parents, will be regularly uploaded on the ACS Athens website as well.  Communication will be further enhanced by meetings with the principals and myself through monthly Principal’s Coffees, as well as a Coffee with the President.  In addition to this, my office is always open to you to exchange ideas, concerns and an occasional praise and good word.

Following in our commitment to recruit, train and retain U.S.-hired faculty and administrators, this year I am pleased to announce that we have hired a new Academy Principal (Mr. Brian Gerbracht) and we have also added several new members to our administrators / faculty teams.

Please join me in welcoming Mr. Gerbracht and the new faculty to ACS Athens!

I am delighted and honored to have the opportunity to continue working with students, faculty, staff, Board of Trustees, PTO, Boosters, and donors, but more importantly with you, the parents, in leading ACS Athens in the continued journey of providing the best educational experience to our students.

The best way to predict the future of our children is working together in shaping it.  I look forward to yet another wonderful school year and seeing all of you at some point on our campus.

Sincerely,

Stefanos Gialamas, Ph.D.
President
