Dear ACS Athens Community,

Staying healthy in the midst of our many and varied pressures and responsibilities is key to living well.

As part of ACS Athens' Holistic, Meaningful & Harmonious philosophy of education a month of activities related to wellness commences on Monday, March 24th 2014.

During Wellness Month students, schoolwide, will have the chance to hear from many professional speakers on topics related to helping young people make healthy choices and lead healthy lives. Topics will include:

  • oral hygiene
  • bullying prevention
  • human trafficking and protecting children
  • safe internet use and addiction
  • substance abuse/addiction/safety
  • eating disorders
  • self harm
  • yoga
  • nutrition and more...

Additionally, our keynote speaker Barbara Coloroso will be addressing students, faculty and parents.  Barbara is an international bestselling author, and for the past 38 years has been an internationally recognized speaker and consultant on parenting, teaching, school discipline, positive school climate, bullying, grieving, nonviolent conflict resolution and restorative justice. She has appeared on Oprah, CBS, NBC, ABC, CNN and NPR and has been featured in the New York Times, Time, U.S. News & World Report, Newsweek and other national and international publications. Barbara’s session for faculty and staff will take place on

  • Monday, March 24, 2014, 16:00 - 18:00
  • Wednesday,  March 26, 2014, 16:00 - 17:30
at the Theater at ACS Athens.


Additional sessions for faculty and staff during Wellness Month will include:

  • Yoga Stops Traffick – Friday, April 4th, 16:00 - 17:15

You are also welcome to attend the following sessions scheduled for parents:

  • Eating disorders and self-harm – Wednesday, April 2nd, 16:30 - 18:00 (Conference Room) - (Dr. Margarita Schina)

U4 Kenya / Sophia Foundation Book Drive

Furthermore, U4 Kenya, in collaboration with the Sophia Foundation, will be collecting English children's books for the Makarios Orphanage for children in Nyeri, Kenya. The orphanage houses more than 140 children and provides meals for as many as 200 children daily.

Children's books for Pre- School, Elementary and Middle School reading levels will be collected throughout Wellness Month, March 24th - April 25th. Please drop off your book donations in front of the transportation office. The book drive will be facilitated by the YOLO Club & Leadership Class.

A calendar of events is available in each school, as well as on the ACS Athens website and all students, faculty, staff and parents are invited to join the groups designed for them.

Wellness Celebration, May 2

The month dedicated to Wellness will culminate in a school-wide celebration of song, dance and special dedications to staying healthy on May 2nd... Stay tuned for more!
