Leadership Courses in the U.S., Summer 2017

Widener University, USA scenes

The Institute for Innovation and Creativity (IIC) at ACS Athens is happy to offer Leadership Summer Courses for Academy students (in grades 9 - 11.)

Following our important partnership agreement with Widener University, ACS Athens and Widener are offering two summer courses in the U.S., taking place in the latter's campus in Philadelphia and in Washington D.C.

Both courses emphasize Leadership, Collaborative activities, College life, learning about U.S. culture, but may also include Engineering projects, visits to other Universities, etc...

Important Deadline: Due to the planning involved please register by March 15, 2017.

Both courses begin on June 24 and run through July 7, 2017.

Description

Live and study on a U.S. University Campus.   Work with Widener University Engineering faculty.  Learn engineering skills in an intensive week of team-based design and engineering challenges...  Develop your problem-solving skills, creativity and critical thinking.  Sharpen your skills and knowledge in programming, mathematics, science, design and technology. Learn team-building and leadership skills in action. Explore two great American cities.

Life-Span Development

When

Fridays @16:00 - 17:30 : 16 sessions | February 10 to June 9

What

Holistic development from birth to old age.  Provide theoretical knowledge and assist the application of this knowledge in everyday practice with developing children, adolescents and adults.

Instructor

Dr. Alessandra Sax: Dr. Sax is, among others, a Psychology Lecturer of Child Psychology, Life-Span Development, Cultural Psychology, Advanced Psychology, etc.  She is also a licensed psychotherapist; faculty ACS Athens.

Pilates

When

Mondays & Fridays @16:00 - 17:00 : Once or twice a week | February 13 to May 15

What

A refreshing mind-body work out to develop a strong core and flexibility...   Pilates can be tweaked to fit any body type and needs no prior experience.

Latin and Ballroom Dance Classes

Learn to dance to the rhythm of the Salsa, Mambo, Rumba, Cha-Cha-Cha & the Argentine Tango.  Dance is the hidden language of the soul.

Recently Added Program

Upper Elementary School students (in grades 3 - 5), have a great opportunity to learn and enjoy Jazz and Hip Hop Dance that will lead to a performance at the Theater at ACS Athens in May.  The class goal is to produce physical and expressively well-trained dancers.   Most importantly, students are encouraged to relax, breathe and enjoy this exploration and to give it their best.

The classes begin on October 26, 2016 and run through January 18, 2017

Educational & Psychological Measurements - July 4 - 9, 2016

The Institute for Innovation and Creativity / Learning Enhancement Programs is proud to present a summer course for professionals : Educational & Psychological Measurements in Special Education.

The course is aimed at Psychologists, Counselors, Special Educators, Speech Therapists, Occupational Therapists and other professionals and will take place July 4 - 9, 2016, on the ACS Athens campus.

The course is designed to develop educator’s skills in formal and informal measurement and diagnostic techniques.   The course will provide instructional experiences that will bring an expansion of:

  • The theoretical concept of assessment
  • Practice with formal assessment instruments
  • Utilizing assessment data to program specifically for the special needs student
  • Interpreting assessment data in conferences with teachers and families
