IIC Summer Scholar's Academy, Summer 2013 - Accepting Applications
Tuesday, April 30, 2013 at 2:59PM The IIC currently accepts applications for its Summer Scholar's Academy Program, for the Summer of 2013, for Middle and High School students.
The program offers a variety of courses, in partnership with local educational/cultural institutions. All courses will take place in the ACS Athens campus and are also open to non ACS Athens students.

Description
Focuses on test taking strategies; test taking practice and content review and reinforcement.
Healthy Choices / Healthy Living
Course Profile
Description
Health, nutrition topics; First Aid techniques-CPR.
Mental, emotional, sexual health; STDs, substance abuse.
Improvise / Move / Dance
Course Profile
Description
Contact improvisation dance form will be taught; contact & weight-sharing improvisation.
Will culminate in a duet including these principles.
Audio / Video Production Lab
Course Profile
Description
Get the skills to make a video short documentary and a short audio/radio piece.
Skills to be explored:
- Concept development

Invitation to Computer Science Using Java

Description
What is Computer Science? How do computers and applications run on the web ? in mobile devices?
Different concepts will be explored and the art of problem solving, using Java programming language.
The course will be a blend of theory and hands-on practice on a development platform.

An exciting summer field study experience: Become reacquainted with Pericle's city though history, culture, civilization..
What is culture? What roles do museums, monuments, historical places play and how do they affect daily life?
Proposals / presentations for rethinking / reinventing / improving living in Athens will be presented in an exhibition in fall.

Description
The nature and structure of Writing; workshops will include visits to museums, peer critiquing, drafting, brainstorming, etc.
A finished, final draft of a well-crafted essay will be produced.
Math Explorers
Course Profile
Description
An adventure in mathematical creativity, problem-solving, game playing, puzzle-solving and logical thinking for students entering grades 7-8.
During this program, students will also visit ancient monuments and approach works of art and explore nature with a mathematical mind and frame of mind.
