Pre-Conference Activity: “A Walk in Ancient Athens”
Optional Program for Participants
Friday, May 13th at 10:00 – 14:00
Pre-Conference Activity Cost: 40 Euro (includes museum entrance fees, lunch and metro tickets)
Dear Participants of the Pre-Conference Activity, "A Walk in Ancient Athens",
This guided field study tour of the Athenian Acropolis and the new Acropolis Museum will be led by Steve Medeiros, Director of ACS Athens Institute of Critical and Creative Thinking, and Kathleen Jasonides, Director of ACS Writing Center and English Department Chair. Both have been long-time teachers of the ACS Athens honors- level Humanities class.
The Acropolis Museum is located in the historical area of Makriyianni, southeast of the Rock of the Acropolis, on Dionysiou Areopagitou Street. The Acropolis station of the Metro is on the east side of the Museum site.
If you are staying in a hotel, please ask the hotel's receptionist to assist you with directions. The museum is approximately a ten-minute walk from the Acropolis Select Hotel, a 15-minute walk from the Ilissos Hotel and is about 2 kilometers away from the King George Palace Hotel and other hotels in the Syntagma (Constitution Square) area. For more information on directions to the museum, please click on this museum link.
All participants are requested to meet at 09:45 at the top of the stairs inside the main-gate entrance to the Acropolis Museum as follows:
The Museum entrance is located at the beginning of the pedestrian walkway of Dionysiou Areopagitou Street. Please enter the Main Gate entrance to the museum. We will all meet at the top of the stairs just inside the gate.
The tour will begin at 10:00 and will end around 14:00 at which time you will be escorted to the conference venue in time for registration and the welcome ceremony.
(Conference Presenters who are participating will end their tour at 12:30 and will go to the Acropolis Select Hotel from where they will be taken to ACS Athens for lunch.)
Some fashion tips for the day: the walk up the Acropolis to the Parthenon is steep, rocky and slippery. Please wear flat shoes with soles that are good for walking on rocky slopes. The sun gets pretty hot, so we recommend that all participants wear a hat and sunscreen.
We will have lunch together after our visit to the Acropolis.
Feel free to contact us with any questions you might have.
