Course description

Course description

The Vectors Module is designed as an extension of the IB Mathematics Standard Level syllabus. It provides a focused and rigorous study of vector geometry, developing both conceptual understanding and analytical proficiency in two and three dimensions.

Students will explore vector representation and operations, including position and displacement vectors, magnitude, direction, unit vectors, and scalar multiplication. The course examines the scalar (dot) product and its applications in determining angles and testing perpendicularity, as well as the vector (cross) product and its geometric interpretation, including area calculations. Emphasis is placed on vector and parametric equations of lines, the relationships between lines in space (parallel, intersecting, and skew), and vector and Cartesian equations of planes using normal vectors.

Algebraic techniques are systematically integrated to strengthen geometric reasoning and support advanced problem-solving at a level aligned with Higher Level expectations.
