Chemical Curiosities - Demystifying Magical Shows: Exploring the Science Behind "Magic" Chemical Reactions
for High School students
Chemical curiosities is a lab-based course. It includes the study, preparation and conducting of 10 spectacular experiments as seen in many chemical magic shows. The course gives a unique opportunity to develop students' skills across a comprehensive range of experimental techniques and chemistry topics.
All labs will be conducted in the Academy Lab (room 103). The participants will learn how to safely handle equipment and chemicals, acquiring valuable experience at a pre-IB level and confidence for their future Internal and External Assessments.
The theoretical aspect which accompanies the lab work, covers a great part and is aligned with the IB Chemistry requirements. Each set of experiments will be designed and conducted by the students following the scientific method and will include extended measurements, data collection and analysis.
**Chemical Curiosities is particularly designed for students who have completed Chemistry 10. (This course fulfills 0.5 ACS Athens graduation requirement as an elective).
Cost: 400 euros
Minimum enrollment: 5 students. Maximum enrollment: 15 students.
