ACS Athens' 11th grader William Laitinen recently received a volunteering award from the Associates of the American Foreign Service Worldwide (AAFSW), the oldest nongovernmental organization supporting the American diplomatic community.

Will was awarded for his work during the summer and fall of 2020 with Love and Serve Without Boundaries (LSWB), the organization that his newly founded ACS Athens club is supporting.

As David Nelson, ACS Athens Academy School Principal, says, "Will Laitinen epitomizes student leadership and initiative, allowing his actions to speak louder than his words. In addition to being a full IB Diploma student, he was elected as Vice-President of his class and has initiated the Love and Serve Without Boundaries club in the Academy, with the support of his advisor Mr. Cramer.  Over the summer, and still, on the weekends, Will volunteers to help others by selling masks, tutoring, and preparing supplies for refugees and others in need.  Additionally, he has contributed his video production skills to design and produce PSAs for the organization. Will's resilience inspires others to act, especially during these most challenging of times."

Congratulations to Will for this initiative and a well-deserved award!
