Congratulations to the ACS debaters who participated in the Deree Fall Semester Debate Tournament that took place virtually on Saturday 21st and Sunday 22nd November 2020.
ACS Athens was represented by six teams, which competed against a total of 65 teams from schools in Athens and Thessaloniki.
Over the course of two days, our students engaged in challenging topics developed their critical thinking, and refined their argumentation skills, while also fueling their passion for the wonderful world of debate.
In addition to enjoying this amazing opportunity and experience, the ACS Athens teams and speakers also performed exceptionally well, gaining a variety of distinctions:
Thalia Kalai and Emma Soulanticas placed 3rd in the Open category, thus qualifying for the Semi-Finals and then moving on to the Finals. They were ranked joint 11th top speakers of the tournament.
Finalists for the second time, building on their performance at the St. Catherine’s Cup last month, this is an amazing achievement!
Ian Brown and Alice Goule placed 1st in the Novice category and were upgraded to compete with experienced teams, where they placed 4th, thus qualifying for the Semi-Finals. Congratulations on an amazing first performance!
We also had 3 debaters in the Top 10 Novice Speakers category, with Aikaterini Drakou and Ian Brown in 7th and 4th place respectively, with Daphne Stamou earning the distinction of the top novice speaker of the tournament. Bravo!
The ACS Athens Debate Club would also like to thank Leigh Anderson and Tommy Lynch for volunteering their time, support, and expertise as judges so that our teams could participate in the tournament.
Congratulations to our experienced and novice debate teams, and we are looking forward to what the future holds for ACS Athens Debate, this year and beyond!
