At this year’s culminating celebrations across all divisions of ACS Athens, students, families, and faculty were treated to an inspiring lineup of honored speakers whose messages echoed the values of inquiry, compassion, and global citizenship that define the school’s mission.

Academy Graduation: Mr. Bletsas and Ms. Olson Speak to the Future

The ACS Athens Academy Graduation, held in the school's theater, welcomed two accomplished speakers whose wisdom and warmth deeply resonated with the graduating Class of 2025.

Mr. Chris Bletsas, Chief Technology Officer at the MIT Media Lab, offered a compelling message about curiosity, resilience, and the power of interdisciplinary thinking. Drawing from his experience at the forefront of innovation and education, he encouraged students to embrace complexity and challenge with both courage and creativity. His words reminded the graduates that success is not just about achievement, but about meaningful contribution and lifelong learning.

Ms. Maria Olson, Chargé d’Affaires at the US Embassy in Athens, reflected on the values of diplomacy, leadership, and service. She shared personal insights on navigating diverse cultural contexts and spoke directly to the global-minded spirit of ACS Athens students. Her encouragement to "remain open to the world and grounded in your values" sparked reflection and appreciation among students and guests alike.

Middle School Ceremony: Mr. Papadimitriou Inspires the Class of 2029

At the Middle School Continuation Ceremony, Mr. Anthony Papadimitriou, President of the Onassis Foundation and parent of an ACS Athens graduate, brought a personal and heartfelt address to the Class of 2029. With a tone of admiration and optimism, he emphasized the importance of integrity, perseverance, and empathy as students prepare for the journey into high school and beyond. Mr. Papadimitriou's reflections on his own academic and professional path reminded students that purpose and passion are lifelong pursuits worth cultivating early.

A Community Rooted in Reflection and Hope

Each of these speakers, in their own distinct way, helped mark the significance of the transitions students are experiencing—from middle school to high school, and high school into the world beyond. Their presence was not only an honor, but a reflection of the strong, diverse community that supports ACS Athens and its commitment to shaping future leaders.

As the 2024–2025 academic year concludes, ACS Athens extends deep gratitude to Mr. Bletsas, Ms. Olson, and Mr. Papadimitriou for sharing their wisdom, stories, and encouragement with our students. Their messages will undoubtedly travel with our graduates as they take their next bold steps into the future.
