On February 1st, 2023, classrooms around the world celebrated World Read Aloud Day, a day that honors the power of reading and the value of sharing stories.

The theme for this year's event was Friendship.

As with previous years, ACS Athens faculty and staff volunteered to read aloud to Elementary School students, spreading happiness throughout the school.

World Read Aloud Day is about celebrating the power of reading aloud. What a better way to start the day than being among our little learners, discussing the theme of friendship and the importance of keeping our friends close to our heart, taking care of them and loving them. As a High School Counselor, I don’t often get the chance to visit the Elementary School but today I felt special that I spent my morning in Junior Kindergarten. This experience reminded me that we can all create our own bubbles of happiness with a little help from our friends.

As I visited classrooms on World Read Aloud Day, I loved seeing how faculty and staff from across the campus were making an impact on our young readers by encouraging them to love stories and reading. It was a great opportunity to make our campus feel smaller and more connected and promote reading all at the same time.
