For Greece, 2021 is a significant year, as it marks the 200th anniversary of Greek Independence.
A special milestone, this is an occasion to celebrate Greek Independence Day and the pursuit of ideals of freedom and democracy - ideals and practices shared and promoted every day at ACS Athens!
Throughout March, ACS Athens holds a series of special activities in all schools, honoring and celebrating this special occasion:

ACS Athens - Elementary School:
In the 5th grade, the Elementary Greek Language Team (Ms. Rovoli, Ms. Papageorgiou, Ms. Psoma, Ms. Orgianopoulou and Ms. Veloudi) worked collectively on a padlet that includes students' research work from all levels of 5th grade Greek classes:
Beginners - Intermediate - Advanced - Language Arts.
The Independence Day Commemoration was presented through students' audio recordings, writing, poetry narrations, singing and drawings.

ACS Athens - Middle School:
Through the guidance of Ms. Stratoglou, Ms. Sidiropoulou, Ms. Kolimpiri and Mr. Maltas, all Middle School students were involved with projects and activities focusing on different aspects of the revolution.
These activities included heroes, traditional outfits, arms, events, battles, art and education, that were presented through padlets and google slides presentations in class:

Ms. Stratoglou encouraged all students in Greek 3 and Greek 6 LA  to write a research paper on the bicentennial anniversary of the Greek independence.
The students also created a choice board.
Students attending "Greek as a Foreign or Second Language students" were also quite active as Ms.Stratoglou guided them into researching and presenting their works on the Commemoration of the 200 years of the Greek Revolution.

Mr. Maltas created a padlet, asking all Greek 4 students to share their opinion on the "heroes of 1821."

Students in Greek 7 LA were also eager to share their research papers on the Greek Revolution.

Ms. Sidiropoulou worked with students in Greek LA6 who did great collaborative work on the Greek Revolution!

Ms. Sidiropoulou also guided Greek LA 7 students who paid homage to the Greek Independence by submitting amazing research papers and inspiring artworks.

The Greek LA 8 students, guided by Ms. Sidiropoulou, created some beautiful drawings to honor the Greek Revolution.

Ms. Kolimpiri's Greek LA  8 students contributed to the dedicated padlet by submitting papers and paintings all inspired by (and paying tribute to) the Greek Revolution.

ACS Athens - Academy:

ACS Athens Academy students were actively involved and did a great job celebrating the Greek Revolution. Through the guidance of Dr. Firigou, Ms. Kolimpiri and Ms. Pisanias, Academy students were involved with analyzing literary texts and also with a series of projects connecting different aspects of the Revolution with the ideas of the revolutions and the arts.

Ms. Kolimpiri encouraged Greek 6 students to get inspired by literature and share their opinion on which values from the Greek Revolution still inspire them.

Ms. Pisanias with her Greek 9 LL and Greek IB year 1 students, studied the Revolution through the literature of the time and asked students to document their impressions of the Greek Revolution and the messages that stand out from this historic event.

Finally, in Greek 5 and Greek 7/8 classes, Dr. Firigou motivated students to get inspired and present their work on the Greek Revolution through essays and related projects.

A result of collaborative work, the ACS Athens faculty did excellent work raising awareness of the significance of the Greek Revolution in the modern world.
The students' contribution was impressive. Their work was even more amazing, making the best of a great opportunity to interact with the historical material and understand the values on which Greece was founded.

Ms. Katerina Pisanias, ACS Athens Greek Language Department Coordinator, commented

"In order to become conscious citizens and fight to build a better world for future generations, our students had the opportunity to interact with the historical period of the Greek Revolution that delimits the foundation of Greece in modern times. Through different activities, our students valued the importance of freedom and became more aware of the challenges of the past.  They also realized the importance of working together as a community in order to achieve an upper cause even if it seems impossible."
