Institute for Critical & Creative Thinking

Who we are…what we do….

The Institute for Critical and Creative Thinking of the American Community Schools of Athens has been designed to develop innovative programs that offer unique educational experiences and personal and professional growth opportunities for the school’s students, faculty and community. Through partnerships with universities, the ICCT offers university level courses for students and faculty, from ACS Athens and schools around the world.  In addition -- through collaboration with university partners,  outside experts and other schools, and drawing on the expertise of ACS Athens’ own faculty and community members -- the ICCT has been established to serve as a generator of innovative programs, creative teaching practices and new knowledge that will enrich school programs, stimulate the intellectual development of ACS Athens students, staff and community, and provide a bridge between ACS Athens and the world of ideas and practice outside of ACS. The ICCT exists to foster and promote creativity.

The ICCT’s goals are accomplished through a number of programs. These include the Arts Academy, Adult Education Program, Creativity Seminar Series, and grant-writing program, University Partnership Program, Writing Project and the Summer Institute for talented high school students and for teachers.  The ICCT is in the process of establishing the Journal of Critical and Creative Teaching for publication during the 2009-10 academic year.
