Principal's Corner
Dear Elementary School Parents,
It is a pleasure for me to welcome all new and returning parents to the ACS Athens Elementary School. I am most enthusiastic about the exciting school year ahead and especially look forward to working with you and your children.
For those of you, whom I haven’t had the pleasure of meeting personally, let me share with you a few things about myself. I was born in Canada and raised in New York. I earned my Bachelor’s Degree from LaVerne University and since then have earned over twenty graduate credits in Education. I am currently pursuing my Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from Lehigh University and am completing my International Administrator’s Certification. I have been an educator at ACS Athens Elementary School for nineteen years. During the last five years I was the Early Childhood Coordinator. I also served as a member on the committee of Institution-Wide-Accreditation of the Middle States Association (MSA). Additionally, I was also selected to be a member of the European Council of International Schools (ECIS) Early Childhood in 2010 and have since then been an active member of this committee.
At ACS Athens, we strive to implement best practices to ensure that each child is holistically successful; academically, socially and emotionally. Our students are provided individual academic attention and nurturance on a daily basis, which is very important for their self-confidence, self-esteem and academic progress. Our students feel comfortable in their classroom settings, thus allowing them to become high achievers, risk-takers and worldly inquirers. Through their overall positive school experiences, students are prepared to move on to their next grade level with success
I am honored and delighted to be the Acting Principal of the Elementary School and look forward to meeting each of you throughout the year. My door is open to all parents and I welcome your suggestions on matters concerning your child. I also encourage you to seek the input of the faculty and myself, as we work together throughout the year for your child(ren)’s success.
Sincerely,
Cathy Makropoulos
Acting Elementary School Principal
