Pi Day at ACS
Pi Day was held on March 13 and 14 to celebrate one of the most fascinating numbers in mathematics:
Students work in groups on activities that allow them to learn more about pi, its meaning, and its history. One of the activities is measuring the circumference and diameter of various circular objects and calculating pi. The Archimedes contest is held to see who can draw the most perfect freehand circle, and there is a Pi Digits contest to see who can memorize the most digits of pi. This year’s winner was Nasos Abuel Basal, who recited 431 digits!!!
The culminating activity is making a pi chain out of ribbons that represent the digits, in their correct order. Students are invited to bring in circular treats to share with the class.
