Middle School Poets

Recently our school submitted 7th grade poetry for Young Writers' Talkin' 'Bout My Generation poetry book series. Talkin' 'Bout My Generation is the seventeenth Young Writers Series. Students were asked to write a poem on any theme and in any poetic style that inspired them. Poems were selected for publication based on perception, imagination, expression, good use of language and interpretation of poetry.

We are very proud to announce that 21 of our students' poems were chosen to be showcased in this publication. Our young poets are Aliasha Zafar, Tarek Ghoneim, Nick Efstratudakis, Nicolas Kalantzakis, Joanna Morgan, Dominic Lauren, Kassi Karrydas, Eleni Souroulides, Ioanna Kapatou, Pantelis Vagionas, Russell Hanby, Julia Voyiatzidaki, Anastasia Tsopelas, Peter Mitropoulos, Jason Thomopoulos, Robbie Amarin, Gabriel Dzurny, Andriana Skalkos, Marta Aharonian, Suheil Arafeh and Jane Winstead.

Congratulations to all and keep on writing!

The Expanding ESL Program

The English/Language Arts Department offers a range of courses for non-native speakers of English through its expanding ESL program. The ESL program is content-based, and students are grouped by grade level, rather than by proficiency level.

All ESL students attend content classes with support that includes modification or other kinds of one-on-one guidance.

Beginning speakers of English attend the ESL Intensive course as well as selected content courses. In the High School, English 9 A2 and English 10 A2 are especially designed for non-native English speakers, following the regular English curriculum for the grade level, with some modification. ESL students in Grades 9, 10 and 11 are provided with additional support in building English language skills in the ESL Intensive course. The Middle School ESL program can be viewed at www.eslfolio.com.
