Upcoming Events - the Archelon Sea Turtle Rescue Center:

December 13, 2010

Dear Sixth Grade Parents,

On Monday, December 20th, as part of our sixth grade Community and Service project, all sixth grade students will visit the Archelon Sea Turtle Rescue Center located in Glyfada. The primary objective of the Archelon Sea Turtle Recue Center is to rehabilitate injured Caretta sea turtles.  Last year, the sixth grade adopted a turtle named Hercules, who suffered a head injury near the island of Skyros. Our goals are to continue our commitment to aiding Hercules in his recovery, learn other ways we can help ensure the survival of his species, and become supporters of the Archelon Center. We will also enjoy a presentation provided by the Archelon staff, observe the rescue efforts at this sea turtle rehabilitation center, and visit Hercules and the other sea turtles.

As a member of our community, your assistance with this worthwhile project and your support is greatly appreciated. Students are reminded of the following:

1.    Signed parent permission field trip forms and a 3 euro entrance fee must be given to Ms. Prodromidi by Friday, December 17th.  Students will not be allowed to participate without their signed parent permission field trip form and paid entrance fee.

2.    Ms. Prodromidi’s Science 6 class will start a fundraising drive to sponsor a turtle/nest for a year. Your contribution can be given to Ms. Prodromidi.

Please note that the students must bring with them a sack lunch for the day, as there will be no place to buy lunch.  All students will return to school before the 3:30 ACS bus departure.  Once again, many thanks for your support of our sixth grade Community and Service Archelon Sea Turtle project.

Sincerely,

6th Grade Core Teachers
Ms. Augoustatos, Middle School Principal

Upcoming Events - letter for the Lyrion Orphanage:

December 10, 2010

Dear Seventh Grade Parents,

On Monday, December 20th, as part of our seventh grade Community and Service project, all seventh grade students will visit the Lyrion Orphanage in Nea Makri. Over forty elementary and middle school-aged children live at the orphanage. Our ACS Middle School has been actively supporting this orphanage since 1980.

Our seventh graders can assist Lyrion Orphanage by donating used clean clothes, delivering toys, school supplies and non-perishable foods such as canned goods, lentils, and pasta. We are also asking each seventh grade student to make a 3 Euro donation which will be given to the orphanage.

As a member of our community, your assistance with this worthwhile project and your help is greatly appreciated. Students are kindly reminded of the following:

1.    Signed field trip permission slips and the 3 Euro contribution are to be given to Ms. Akrivou by Friday, December 17th. Students will not be allowed to participate without their signed parent permission field trip form.

2.    The community service donation items may be delivered to the boxes outside of the main office.

3.    Students are responsible for their field notebooks and writing utensils on that day.

Please note that students must bring lunch and a snack for that day. If time permits students may eat their packed lunch by the sea shore. It is imperative that they bring their lunch with them because kiosks or restaurants are not located in the vicinity.

Students are reminded that we will return to school before the 3:30 buses depart. Once again, many thanks for your support of our seventh grade Lyrion Orphanage Community and Service project.

Sincerely,

Seventh Grade Core Teachers
Ms. Augoustatos, Middle School Principal

Please join us tomorrow, Thursday, December 16 for the Music Department’s Festive Music Night Concert beginning at 6:00 p.m. in the ACS Athens Theater Arts Center. All Middle School and Academy music classes and co-curricular ensembles will be performing.   This year we are also honoring the foreign languages studied at our school and they will join our performance by singing a festive song.

Please be advised that students must have the following attire for the performance.
Ladies:    white shirt, black pants or long/knee length skirt, black socks or
stockings (hosiery), black shoes.
Gentlemen:    white shirt with tie, black pants, black socks, black shoes.
Jeans, sweat pants, “kolan” tights, colored socks or shoes, running shoes or casual sneakers are inappropriate. Let’s make an effort to help our students be tastefully dressed for this formal event.

Finally, we kindly ask that all parents and friends in our audience stay for the duration of the concert. Our concerts last no longer than 1 hour and 30 minutes at the most. All groups on the program deserve an audience to perform for!

Performances such as this are command performances (Middle School and Academy Program of Studies and Student and Parent Handbooks). Therefore, student attendance is mandatory. Thank you for your continued support. We look forward to seeing you at the concert and the tree lighting closing ceremony!
