The Math & Literature Club

The Math & Literature Club is a reading group for the ACS Academy students in grades 9-12.

The goal of the Math & Literature Club is to give students the opportunity to see Mathematics in a different light. Through the club activities students learn about mathematical ideas, mathematicians and their work while reading and discussing a fiction novel.  Reading is fun and so is Math!

This year the Math & Literature Club will help expand the Mathematics & Literature section of the ACS Athens library.

Through the club students have the opportunity to:

  • Read, analyze and discuss a fiction novel
  • Discuss different topics in mathematics
  • Investigate   Mathematical ideas  based on the novel or our discussions

Join the Math & Literature Club if you…

  • Simply Love Mathematics!
  • Love reading!
  • Want to be part of a different reading group
  • Are curious about topics that involve math but are not in your Math textbook
  • Like debating and discussions about any topic
  • Don’t seem to understand why mathematicians are so excited about math
  • Math is not one of your strong subjects

On Wednesday  Dec 14, 2011,  Ms. Tamyra Walker and Ms. Maria Lambrinos  presented a model for activity based learning to the middle school faculty.

The presentation was based on how

  • To understand how exploratory based learning helps develop thinking skills and enhances the learning process
  • To explore simple techniques that can help you easily facilitate exploratory based learning in your classroom

Well done to both of our colleagues for a most interesting and informative presentation.
