Pre Conference Activity "A Walk in Ancient Athens"

The Parthenon, AthensParticipants may join an optional guided field study tour of the Athenian Acropolis, the new Acropolis Museum and the ancient city led by Steve Medeiros, Dean of ACS Athens Institute of Innovation and Creativity.  Mr. Medeiros has been a long-time teacher of the ACS Athens honors-level Humanities class.

The Tour will begin at the entrance to the Acropolis Metro Station and will end with lunch in the Monastiraki, or Psirri area of Athens.

Half day City Tour of Athens:   € 48.00

Enjoy a tour of Athens, combining many of the city's principal modern and classical sights. This tour includes an overview of the modern city and its striking contrasts to the remains of its glorious past. Drive by the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in front of the Parliament House in Constitution Square, the Panathenian Stadium (site of the first modern Olympic Games in 1896). See vistas of the Presidential Palace (ex Royal Palace), government buildings and elegant homes. Drive along Panepistimiou Avenue and view the Catholic Cathedral, the Academy, University, National Library and Omonia Square. In contrast, we visit the Roman Temple of Olympian Zeus and the crowning beauty and glory that was Athens, the Acropolis with its many monuments atop its rocky base, including the Parthenon, the Propylaea, the Temple of Athena Nike and the Erechtheion with its Porch of Maidens.


Full day Tour to Delphi, including lunch:  € 90.00

Drive through LEVADIA and ARACHOVA (famous for its bright multi colored carpets). Arrive in DELPHI, the ancient sanctuary of Apollo. Visit the Museum where one can see, among other archaeological treasures, the unique bronze Charioteer, then proceed through the sacred way to the Athenian treasury. Visit the Temple of Apollo. Return to Athens by the same route.


Full day Cruise to the islands, including lunch:  € 90.00

Morning transfer by motor coach from Athens to Piraeus Port and embark on the cruise ship. Sail for the island of HYDRA. In Hydra you have leisure time for strolling, shopping or swimming. In the early afternoon sail for the island of AEGINA, passing through the narrow strait separating the Peloponnesian coast from the island of POROS.  Upon arrival in Aegina you can either join the excursion to the Temple of Aphaia (extra cost ) or walk around the main town.
Lunch is served on board. Sail to Poros island for a short visit.  Finally, re-embark for the sail back to Piraeus Port.  Arrival at Piraeus Port and transfer to Athens.
